On March 1-2, the competition regulations and standard formulation for the Pharmaceutical and Health Competition of the Belt & Road and BRICS Competition of Skills Development and Technology Innovation , along with the work conference on the construction of the International Training Bases for BRICS Future Technical Skills and Humanities Exchange Talents(BRICS Workshop), were successfully held at the BRICS Academy of Skills Development and Technology Innovation(Xiamen). The conference attracted over 500 experts, scholars, and teachers from countries including China, Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, and Pakistan, involving more than 20 hospitals, over 200 schools, and more than 30 enterprises, establishing a crucial platform for promoting international cooperation in the field of medicine and health.

At the meeting, Dr. Liu Zhenying, Chair of China Chapter of BRICS Business Council Skills Development, Applied Technology and Innovation Working Group and President of the International Alliance of Skills Development for Belt & Road and BRICS, pointed out in his report titled "BRICS+ Cooperation Outcome Design Supports Chinese Enterprises and Vocational Education Going Global" that the BRICS+ cooperation outcome design is based on the International Alliance of Skills Development for Belt & Road and BRICS and the BRICS+ Alliance of Science and Technology Innovation. Its main tasks include formulating BRICS technical and vocational standards, establishing BRICS Workshops, and promoting cooperative education. It conducts online and offline training through the Belt&Road and BRICS Auditorium of Skills Development and Technology Innovation, organizes the Belt & Road and BRICS Competition of Skills Development and Technology Innovation, facilitates Sino-foreign joint education programs, implements international cooperation and exchange projects, cultivates internationally competitive high-skilled talents and local skilled workers urgently needed by Chinese enterprises, builds the "Vocational Education Going Global" brand, and contributes to international industry-education integration.
Wu Xiuchun, the head of BRICS Workshop Construction at BRICS Academy of Skills Development and Technology Innovation(Xiamen), elaborated in detail on the construction plan, functional positioning, application points, and implementation roadmap of the base (BRICS Workshop) in the thematic report titled "Application and Introduction of the International Training Bases for BRICS Future Technical Skills and Humanities Exchange Talents(BRICS Workshop)." By 2025, efforts will continue to advance the construction of BRICS Workshops and cooperative education programs in BRICS and Belt and Road countries. Using the BRICS Workshop as a platform, the initiative will carry out Sino-foreign joint education programs, provide localized training for enterprises, and promote collaborative education.
Wu Jianfeng from the BRICS Standardization Working Committee for Skills and Technology mentioned during his presentation on "Progress and Achievements of the BRICS Standardization Working Committee for Skills and Technology" that standardization is key to deepening cooperation among BRICS nations. The committee has achieved phased results in multiple fields, collaborating with various countries to advance over 50 BRICS group skill standards, competition standards, and curriculum standards. These efforts have practically built internationally recognized "golden professions," "golden courses," "golden faculty," "golden bases," and "golden teaching materials." A total of 641 institutions and 1,335 experts from BRICS+ countries have participated in related work, and efforts will continue to promote the formulation and refinement of BRICS technical and skill standards, as well as facilitate mutual recognition and harmonization of standards among BRICS nations.
Professor Zhou Yan, the Chief Referee of the fiest Health Care Vocational Skills (Geriatric Direction) of 2024 Belt & Road and BRICS Competition of Skills Development and Technology Innovation , provided an in-depth analysis of the current competition's characteristics and future development trends in her keynote report titled "Comprehensive Interpretation and Prospects of Medical and Health-Related Competition Events." She emphasized that the competition events should closely align with industry demands, integrate new technologies and concepts, continuously improve the quality of the competition, and provide a more precise platform for selecting outstanding technical and skilled talents.
Experts from Brazil, Indonesia and other countries also expressed their support for the conference and their vision for cooperation in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector. The participating experts engaged in discussions on topics such as competition rules and standards formulation for pharmaceutical and healthcare events, as well as the construction of international training bases, providing valuable insights and suggestions for the development of the industry.

Alliance Expansion: Building an International Cooperation Platform for Skills Development
At the meeting, Chairman Liu Zhenying presented certificates to the new member units of the International Alliance of Skills Development for Belt & Road and BRICS. The Alliance is one of the key outcomes of the 2017 BRICS Summit of the Five Countries' Highest Leaders, recognized by the BRICS Summit Preparatory Committee and approved by the BRICS Business Council. It is an international organization jointly signed and implemented by the skills development working groups of various countries, currently comprising nearly 2,000 member units.
Annual Conference and Subcommittee Meetings: Facilitating Achievement Transformation and Boosting Industry Development
The conference was held concurrently with the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Medicine and Health Committee of the the International Alliance of Skills Development for Belt & Road and BRICS, as well as the subcommittee meetings. Professor Wang Zhanxiang, Honorary President of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University, was elected as the Chairman through by-election. Additionally, vice-chairman units, vice-chairmen, executive directors, directors, and committee members were added, thereby optimizing the organizational structure of the committee. To ensure the fairness, impartiality, and transparency of the competition, the conference also invited multiple experts in the pharmaceutical and healthcare fields to evaluate various events, including the Pediatric Rehabilitation Skills Competition, Medical Laboratory Skills Competition, and Emergency Nursing Skills Competition, guaranteeing the scientificity and rationality of the competition rules and standards.At the meeting, recognition was awarded to the outstanding heads of expert groups, chief referees, and arbitration chairs for their exceptional performance in the 2024 Belt & Road and BRICS Competition of Skills Development and Technology Innovation's pharmaceutical and healthcare category events.
Meanwhile, the annual meetings of the pharmaceutical and Health Specialized Committee and its seven subcommittees—Healthcare Vocational Skills, Medical Virtual Reality Education, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Imaging Technology, School Emergency Education, Infant and Child Healthcare, and Nursing Skills—were held concurrently. The meetings comprehensively summarized and recognized the committee's work in 2024 and the medical and health-related competitions. Additionally, the establishment of seven new subcommittees was announced, covering Pharmacy, Traditional Chinese Medicine Skills, Smart Health and Elderly Care, Pediatric Rehabilitation, Aesthetic Nursing, Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation, and Preschool Education.
The successful convening of this conference holds significant importance for advancing the transformation of achievements in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, accelerating the formulation and promotion of international group standards among BRICS nations, and facilitating the construction of the International Training Bases for BRICS Future Technical Skills and Humanities Exchange Talents(BRICS Workshop).
