The president of our Academy was invited to attend the 2024 Second Intercontinental Conference on Scientific Literacy and delivered a keynote speech.

Recently, the 2024 Second Intercontinental Conference on Scientific Literacy was held in a hybrid online-offline format, bringing together distinguished experts from around the globe to discuss crucial topics on the construction of scientific culture and the popularization of science. Dr. Liu Zhenying, Chair of China Chapter of BRICS Business Council Skills Development, Applied Technology and Innovation Working Group, President of the International Alliance of Skills Development for Belt & Road and BRICS, and President of our Academy, was invited by the Andean Road International Science and Technology Organization to attend this event and deliver a keynote presentation.

This event invited over ten keynote speakers from Singapore, China, Pakistan, Guatemala, Argentina, Russia, Timor-Leste, Benin, Brazil, and Colombia. Each speaker possesses profound expertise and outstanding achievements in fields such as science, education, policy-making, and cultural exchange, providing diverse perspectives for in-depth discussions during the conference.

 

Dr. Liu Zhenying elaborated in detail in his keynote report on a series of initiatives by the China Chapter of BRICS Business Council Skills Development, Applied Technology and Innovation Working Group to promote science and technology education among BRICS countries. He also shared case studies of skills development and technology innovation projects, as well as the challenges and solutions in promoting scientific literacy across diverse cultural and economic contexts. He emphasized the crucial role of BRICS nations in global scientific collaboration and underscored the necessity and urgency of strengthening cooperation and exchanges to jointly advance the enhancement of scientific literacy and the development of an innovation culture. Dr. Liu's report received widespread recognition from the participants.

Based on the specific content of this meeting, a white paper titled "Strengthening Scientific and Climate Literacy in Latin America and the Caribbean" has been summarized and compiled. This document has recently been accepted for publication by the journal "Latin American Science and Culture" (ISSN 2788-8991).

 

As the primary collaborator of this event, our Academy looks forward to taking this opportunity to join hands with partners from the Belt & Road Initiative, BRICS countries, and across the globe to jointly explore new models and approaches in science education. We aim to contribute to cultivating more future technical talents with innovative spirit and practical capabilities, promote the prosperity and development of science education, and make newer and greater contributions to building a community with a shared future for humanity.
