On September 30, the inaugural meeting of the drafting working group for the three BRICS group standards"IoT Competition Event," skills, and curriculumwas successfully convened. The event was hosted by the BRICS Standardization Working Committee for Skills and Technology and organized by the BRICS Academy of Skills Development and Technology Innovation(Xiamen) and Beijing Newland Era Technology Co., Ltd. Over 150 experts, scholars, and industry representatives in the field of IoT from countries including China, Russia, Brazil, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, and Nigeria gathered online to witness this significant moment.

Dr. Liu Zhenying, Chair of China Chapter of BRICS Business Council Skills Development, Applied Technology and Innovation Working Group and the BRICS Standardization Working Committee for Skills and Technology, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Dr. Liu affirmed the importance of formulating the three group standards for the "Internet of Things" competition, skills, and curriculum, and pointed out that he hopes all relevant units will actively participate in the development of BRICS group standards, strengthen exchanges and cooperation among BRICS countries, and cultivate more high-quality IoT professionals.

Zhu Xiuqing, member of the BRICS Standardization Working Committee for Skills and Technology and head of the International Department of the BRICS Academy of Skills Development and Technology Innovation (Xiamen), introduced the progress and achievements of the BRICS Standardization Working Committee to the attendees.

At the meeting, Mr. Pavel Ratnikov, Deputy Director of International Relations at the Russian Skills Development Agency; Associate Professor Jacob Jacobus Greeff, Deputy Dean of the School of Computer Science and Information Systems at Northwest University in South Africa and member of the BRICS Standardization Working Committee; Dr. Ata Jahangir Moshavedi, Associate Professor at the School of Information Engineering, Jiangxi University of Technology, Iran; Mr. Mamudu Hamidu, former Technical Representative of WorldSkills Ghana and lecturer at Kumasi Technical University, Ghana; Dr. Rio Nurtantyana, Researcher at the Data and Information Science Research Center of the Electronics and Informatics Research Organization under the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) of the Republic of Indonesia; Professor Shu Guohui, Dean of the School of Information Technology at Anqing Vocational and Technical College; and Dr. Zhao Tianchi from the School of Internet of Things Engineering at Jiangsu Vocational College of Information Technology, along with other experts and scholars, introduced and discussed the application status and development prospects of IoT technology both domestically and internationally. They unanimously emphasized that the formulation of standards should fully consider the actual conditions and needs of BRICS countries, prioritize the cultivation of practical skills, align with international benchmarks, and ensure the advancement and universality of the standards. Additionally, they pledged to actively promote the development of these standards, contributing to the cultivation of professional talent in the global IoT field.

 

Also present at the meeting were over thirty international guests, including Mr. Valério Junior Piana, an expert from Brazil's National Industrial Training Service (SENAI); Ms. Nomsa Gumbi, representative of Department of Higher Education and Training of South Africa; Mr. AbdEl-Monem El Sharkawy, Director of Egypt's National Information Technology Institute for Persons with Disabilities and Associate Professor at Cairo University; and Ms. Koko Ezekiel Adegbenro, an official from Nigeria's Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.

Wang Yideng, Director of Teaching and Research at Beijing Newland Era Technology Co., Ltd., provided a detailed introduction to the content, tasks, organization, and plans of the three standard works for the "IoT Competition Event," including competition, skills, and curriculum. He briefly explained the various stages of standard formulation and introduced the work involved at each stage. He stated that extensive feedback from all parties would be solicited, with full consideration given to the actual conditions of different countries and regions, to ensure the scientific nature, rationality, and operability of the standards. Efforts will be actively promoted to advance and complete the standard formulation work.

The successful convening of this meeting marks a solid step forward in the standardization cooperation of the BRICS Standardization Working Committee for Skills and Technology in the field of the Internet of Things. It not only lays the foundation for standard development but also charts the course for vocational talent cultivation in IoT among BRICS & Belt and Road countries. It practically promotes the alignment of education with industrial output, fosters school-enterprise collaboration, supports Chinese companies in going global, assists leading industry players in providing overseas personnel with academic education and skills training, cultivates international talents and local skilled workers urgently needed by Chinese enterprises, and builds a distinctive "vocational education going global" brand with Chinese characteristics. Simultaneously, it serves international production capacity cooperation by leading or participating in the development of internationally influential professional standards, curriculum standards, teaching resources, and educational equipment, propelling "Chinese standards" toward "international standards" and enhancing the global influence of China's vocational education.
