From August 21 to 23, 2026, the 12th International Invention Exhibition · Belt & Road and BRICS Competition of Skills Development and Technology Innovation was successfully held at the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou. The competition was established to meet the needs of skills talent exchange and technological innovation development among BRICS countries and Belt and Road partner nations, creating an international platform for competition, exchange, and commercialization of achievements. It brought together skilled talents, industry experts, and innovative teams from multiple countries to compete and learn from each other, effectively promoting the mutual recognition of cross-border skills standards, joint talent cultivation, and coordinated industrial development.
The competition featured two core segments: the Technology Innovation Competition and the Future Skills Challenge, covering both cutting-edge skills competitions and industrial technology innovation. With its high-level format, strong international participation, and broad coverage, the event fully showcased the talent and innovative vitality of the international skills community in the new era. After intense competition, the jury ultimately awarded 28 gold prizes, 45 silver prizes, 60 bronze prizes, and 39 excellence awards, yielding fruitful results.
01 Technology Innovation Competition
As one of the core segments, the Technology Innovation Competition was themed "Technology Innovation Integration Empowers New Industry, Jointly Promoting Sustainable Development of BRICS Countries." It focused on global industrial upgrading, green and low-carbon development, and digital intelligence trends, featuring ten authoritative competition tracks covering intelligent advanced manufacturing, digital health and medical care, green energy and carbon neutrality, integrated artificial intelligence applications, virtual simulation and the metaverse, digital agriculture and food security, aerospace information and communication technology, smart government and public governance, ecological protection and resilient cities, and future frontier technology exploration—comprehensively spanning key areas such as emerging industries, people's livelihood technology, and green development.
The competition adopted an "exhibition-competition integration" model, deeply merging the contest with an international innovation achievements exhibition to achieve an integrated platform for competition, exchange, display, and promotion of innovative outcomes. This opened up channels for the commercialization of technological innovations and facilitated the sharing of high-quality innovation resources among countries. The Technology Innovation Competition brought together 162 innovative projects from 14 countries, including China, Brazil, Russia, India, South Africa, Afghanistan, Bulgaria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Iran, and Paraguay.
02 Future Skills Challenge
The Future Skills Challenge was co-hosted by the Russian Skills Development Agency (formerly WorldSkills Russia), focusing on the cultivation of emerging vocational skills talent in BRICS countries and Belt and Road partner nations. Precisely aligned with current skills demands in emerging industries, it featured two practical competition events: Cybersecurity and Mechanical Engineering CAD. The competition was complemented by a series of empowerment activities, including pre-competition training camps and professional competency assessments, building an international talent development system that promotes "learning through competition, training through competition, and development through competition."
The Future Skills Challenge attracted 10 teams from China, South Africa, and Russia. The competition strictly adhered to international competition standards, comprehensively testing participants' practical abilities, professional competence, and innovative thinking, providing a high-quality specialized platform for cross-border exchange of emerging skills talent. Russia dispatched a team of specialized experts and working personnel to participate in on-site event support and judging, fully contributing to the professional and orderly execution of the competition.
The successful hosting of this competition further deepened exchanges and cooperation among BRICS countries and Belt and Road partner nations in skills talent cultivation, technological innovation, and industrial collaboration. By using the competition as a bridge and empowering through skills, it not only built an international platform for young talents from various countries to hone their skills, exchange ideas, and grow together, effectively promoting the mutual recognition of cross-border skills standards and joint cultivation of high-quality talent, but also facilitated the integration of cutting-edge technological innovations and the commercialization of scientific achievements. This injected strong momentum into the high-quality and sustainable development of skills industries in BRICS countries and partner nations. In the future, the competition will continue to leverage its advantages as an international platform, deepen its focus on skills innovation, continuously expand the dimensions of international cooperation, cultivate more high-caliber international skills talents, and empower global industrial innovation and upgrading.
This competition was an important component of the 12th International Invention Exhibition and was held concurrently with the 34th Guangzhou Fair. The 12th International Invention Exhibition covered a total exhibition area of approximately 20,000 square meters, attracting participation from over 30 countries and showcasing more than 3,700 cutting-edge innovations from China and abroad. The exhibition featured six major highlights and seven professional exhibition zones, comprehensively presenting a new pattern of comprehensive regional collaborative innovation and injecting strong momentum into regional industrial upgrading and the internationalization of scientific and technological innovation.
The competition was hosted by the China Chapter of BRICS Business Council , the International Alliance of Belt and Road & BRICS Skills Development, and the Belt & Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Training Center; co-hosted by the China Association of Inventions and the China Center for International People-to-People Exchange of the Ministry of Education; organized by the Skills Development, Applied Technology and Innovation Working Group of China Chapter of BRICS Business Council; and co-organized by BRICS Academy of Skills Development and Technology Innovation (Xiamen).
