On May 12-13, 2023, the 38th Asian Welding Federation (AWF) Council and Committee Working Conference was successfully held in Xiamen, Fujian Province, China, in a combination of online and offline. The conference was co-organized by the Asian Welding Federation (AWF), China Welding Association (CWA), and China Society of Mechanical Engineering Welding Sub-Committee (CWS), and co-hosted by Xiamen BRICS Institute for Future Skills Development and Technological Innovation (hereinafter referred to as the BRICS Institute for Future Skills Development and Technological Innovation), and Beijing JACK Emerging Science and Technology Co. The BRICS Institute for the Future provided the offline venue, online meeting platform and overall conference services for this international conference. More than 50 representatives of welding societies and associations from 12 member countries, including Japan, Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Mongolia, Myanmar, Vietnam, the Philippines and China, participated in the working sessions and related activities through on-site and ZOOM online mode.
The 10th IT Platform Sub-Committee Meeting, the 15th Training and Education Sub-Committee Meeting, the 17th Technical Expert Group Meeting, the 16th Review Sub-Committee Meeting, the 17th Documentation Sub-Committee Meeting, the 6th Accreditation Committee Meeting, the 16th Web Site and Market Development Committee Meeting, the 10th Welding Technology and Applications Committee Meeting, the 21st Standardization Committee Meeting, the 18th Universal Welder Certification Committee Meeting, the 2nd Membership Committee Meeting, the 8th Executive Committee Meeting, the 38th AWF Council Meeting, and the Membership Certificate Awarding Ceremony were held according to the meeting agenda. Standardization Committee Meeting, 18th General Welder Certification Committee Meeting, 2nd Membership Committee Meeting, 8th Executive Committee Meeting, and 38th AWF Board of Directors Meeting, as well as holding the Membership Certificate Award Ceremony.
Dr. Liu Zhenying, Vice President of China Welding Association (CWA) and President of Xiamen BRICS Institute for Future Skill Development and Technology Innovation, attended the working meetings as the authorized representative of CWA, the Chairman of AWF Website and Market Development Committee and the Chairman of AWF Welding Technology and Application Committee, and chaired the working meetings of the above two committees.
At the 16th Website and Market Development Committee meeting, Dr. Liu highlighted the framework structure of the established Chinese website of the Asian Welding Federation, and member countries put forward suggestions for further updating and improving the webpage, such as whether all member countries can log in to the webpage, adding a separate certificate column on the webpage, and replacing the webpage icon. The establishment of the Chinese website will help to benefit more Chinese-speaking welders to know about the Asian Welding Confederation and increase its influence in Asian countries.
In the 10th Welding Technology and Application Committee meeting, Dr. Liu reviewed the previous Asian Welding Technology and Application Forum, highlighting the upcoming 12th Asian Welding Technology and Application Forum 2023 International Symposium on Intelligent Welding and Additive Manufacturing Technology and Cooperation, which will be held at BRICS Institute for the Future with the theme of "Intelligent Welding and Additive Manufacturing Technology and Cooperation". Welding and Additive Manufacturing Technology and Cooperation International Symposium, and sincerely invite members of the Asian Welding Federation countries to actively participate in the forum and the same period activities "new technology, new product applications" exhibition. Asia Welding Technology and Application Forum has been held for 11 consecutive sessions, effectively promoting the exchange of technology and skills, welding training and education practice sharing and technical skills training.
At the 21st Standardization Committee meeting, Dr. Liu expressed his idea and proposal to establish a sub-committee on standards development under the standardization committee structure, and listened carefully to the opinions of Mr. Sze Thiam Siong, the president of AWF, and other AWF members on this idea. It was decided that Dr. Liu and his team could draft the charter of the sub-committee on standards development and submit it to the AWF Executive Committee and Board of Directors for review and approval, in order to promote the development of the Asian Welding Federation's group technical standards to enhance the standards development capability and standardization cooperation among member countries.
At the end of the working session, Mr. Sze Thiam Siong, President of AWF, on behalf of the Asian Welding Federation, expressed his gratitude to the Chinese organizers, China Welding Association, Welding Branch of the Chinese Society of Mechanical Engineering, and the executive organizers, BRICS Institute for the Future, and Beijing Jiake Xinxin Science and Technology Co. He said: "Thank you very much for your hard work in organizing this event, as well as the venue organization and warm hospitality, it is an honor and pleasure to participate in such a successful conference. I am grateful and looking forward to the technical forum and tours you are organizing tomorrow. At the membership certificate awarding ceremony, Mr. Sze Thiam Siong, President of AWF, presented the 2023 AWF membership certificates and associate member certificates to the representatives of each member organization who attended the offline meeting. Dr. Liu Zhenying received the 2023 AWF Full Member certificate on behalf of China Welding Association, Liu Zhenying and Wu Yan received the 2023 AWF Associate member certificate on behalf of Surface Engineering and Additive Manufacturing Working Committee of China Welding Association, Zhang Li received the 2023 AWF Associate member certificate on behalf of Welding Specialized Committee of China Building Material and Machinery Industry Association, Hou Li received the 2023 AWF Associate member certificate on behalf of Welding Specialized Committee of China Building Material and Machinery Industry Association, and Hou Li received the 2023 AWF Associate member certificate on behalf of China Building Material and Machinery Industry Association. AWF associate member certificate was received by Zhang Li on behalf of the Welding Committee of China Building Material Machinery Industry Association, and the 2023 AWF associate member certificate was received by Hou Longqiu on behalf of Beijing Jiake Xinxing Technology Co.
On May 14, the 12th Asian Welding Technology and Application Forum 2023 International Symposium on Intelligent Welding and Additive Manufacturing Technology and Cooperation was successfully held in Xiamen BRICS Future Skills Development and Technology Innovation Institute. The symposium centered on the theme of "Intelligent Welding and Additive Manufacturing Technology and Cooperation". Representatives of Asian Welding Federation member countries, including the Singapore Welding Society, China Welding Association, China Mechanical Engineering Society Welding Branch, Indonesian Welding Association, Malaysian Welding and Joining Society, Japan Welding Engineering Society, Myanmar Federation of Engineering Societies, Mongolia Materials Science and Welding Society of the leaders and experts, as well as representatives of the Bulgarian Welding Society, Spain's business representatives, domestic key institutions, experts and other relevant personnel. Key institutions, experts and scholars, and other relevant personnel a total of 32 people to make keynote speeches and analyze the current situation of the development of the welding industry at home and abroad. The seminar attracted nearly 150 representatives from intelligent welding and additive manufacturing industry enterprises and professional colleges and universities, including more than 40 foreign guests. It was also broadcased live through the WeChat video number of BRICS Future Research Institute, attracting nearly 10,000 online viewers.
From May 12 to 14, the 38th Asian Welding Federation Council and Committee Meeting Concurrent Activities "New Technology, New Product Application" Exhibition was successfully held in the Future Technology Exhibition and Experience Center of Xiamen BRICS Institute for Future Skill Development and Technology Innovation. The exhibition covered the fields of Industry 4.0, intelligent manufacturing, artificial intelligence, digital skills, etc., with a total of 32 pieces/sets of exhibits from 25 enterprises. Domestic and foreign guests visited the exhibition and interacted with the exhibitors to have a deeper understanding of Made in China and highly appreciated the exhibition. The exhibition was broadcased live on WeChat through the BRICS Future Institute, attracting nearly 10,000 online viewers.
On May 15, a delegation of more than 30 people from the 38th Asian Welding Federation (AWF) Council and Committee Meeting visited Jianlin Group. The delegation was warmly received by Mr. Huang Jie, Special Assistant to the President of Jianlin Group and Head of AMZ Program, Mr. Chen Wei, Vice President of Marketing of Key Account Business System, and Mr. Tian Yan, Vice President of Marketing of Ensign. The delegation had an in-depth understanding of the research and application of new materials, green surface engineering, water purification, livable air, healthy kitchen and bath and intelligent equipment, the comprehensive strength and corporate culture of Jianlin Group, and expressed their recognition and appreciation, and discussed further opportunities for cooperation and explored ways of cooperation, looking forward to the realization of complementary advantages and win-win cooperation in the future.
Asian Welding Federation (AWF) was established in 2004, is an international non-profit organization, its vision is to become a leading organization in the field of welding, joining and related technologies to achieve its strategic goals; the main purpose is to promote the progress of welding technology in Asian countries through the exchange of scientific and technological information and knowledge, to promote the Asian region's Science and technology and economic development. Its main specific work is to promote the advancement and application of the science, technology, art, craft, profession, practice and standards of welding, and to promote the development of all related auxiliary or complementary sciences, arts, crafts, and professions; to disseminate, extend, teach, and promote knowledge of, and proficiency in, all systems of welding and their application in industry; and to propose, initiate, and promote changes and improvements in the methods of welding and the welding in industrial or commercial applications.
The organization consists of welding societies, associations, institutes and related welding practitioner entities in various Asian countries and regions, and currently has 12 member countries, namely, China, Indonesia, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The Asian Welding Federation has committees, sub-committees or working groups, namely Website and Market Development Committee, Welding Technology and Application Committee, Certification Committee, Standardization Committee, Membership Committee, Certification of Common Welders (CWCS) Committee and IT Platform Sub-Committee, Training and Education Sub-Committee, Review Sub-Committee, Literature Sub-Committee, and Technical Expert Group.
The Working Conference of the Asian Welding Confederation is organized by its member countries on a rotational application basis, and is held twice a year, with the concurrent Asian Welding Technology and Application Forum and exhibition and display activities. The 39th Working Conference is scheduled to be held in October 2023 in the Philippines and we look forward to your participation and support!
