From May 13-15, 2023 the 7th Belt& Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Competition Kick-off and Briefing Meeting was successfully held in Xiamen. More than 120 people from vocational schools, technical support enterprises and social organizations attended the meeting on site, and more than 5,000 people participated online.

This year's competition is rich in cutting-edge content, covering a wide range of areas, focusing on industry 4.0 as the core of intelligent manufacturing, digital technology skills, future technology skills development, set up including new energy vehicle innovation and production, drone maneuvering and delivery of 80 competitions, so that many technical and technical talents in more tracks to be able to show the competition. Among them, virtual simulation of horticultural construction, mobile robotics competition and other competitions entered the competition for the first time.

Dr. Liu Zhenying, Chairman of the Skills Development Working Group of the BRICS Business Council (China), Chairman of the Belt and Road and BRICS International Alliance for Skills Development, and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Organizing Committee of the BRICS Skills Development and Technological Innovation Competition, attended the Launching Ceremony and delivered a keynote speech. Dr. Liu Zhenying gave another in-depth explanation of the Five Outcome Designs of the BRICS Business Council Working Group on Skills Development. He said that in 2023, the BRICS Business Council Skills Development Working Group will continue to put into practice the five outcome designs. One of them is to continue to carry out the BRICS Vocational Skills Competition and the Skills Development and Technology Innovation Competition under the mechanism of BRICS Business Council, to organize the Future Skills Distance International Training Camp, and to improve the mechanism of combining competitions and training.The 7th BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Competition in 2023 will set up the main competition zone in South Africa, and the sub-zones in Russia and China. The Chinese skills group will select Chinese experts and competitors to form a Chinese delegation to South Africa and Russia, and will also invite competitors from other BRICS countries to compete in China, promoting educational cooperation, skills development and humanistic exchange activities among BRICS countries.


In order to better help the participating experts and players understand the overall planning of the event and the information of the specific sub-competitions, the meeting invited the competition experts to give a detailed interpretation of the competition regulations for 28 of the competitions. On-site also held a ceremony to award certificates to experts of the competition, a signing ceremony to host the final of the competition, a ceremony to award certificates to members of the Belt and Road and BRICS International Alliance for Skills Development, and a signing ceremony between Xiamen BRICS Institute for Future Skills Development and Technological Innovation and the core co-construction units of the Shenzhen Vocational College of Technology (on behalf of the institutions) and Hangzhou Hifuture Technology Co. Ltd. (enterprise representative).


As one of the highlights of the conference, the "New Technology and New Product Application Exhibition" was held at the same time, and the exhibition hall was set up in the Future Technology Exhibition and Experience Center of Xiamen BRICS Future Skill Development and Technology Innovation Research Institute. The exhibition featured 32 pieces/sets of exhibits from 25 enterprises in the fields of Industry 4.0, intelligent manufacturing, artificial intelligence, digital skills, etc., which fully demonstrated to domestic and international audiences China's innovative development in promoting "integration of competition and education, promoting reform through competition, and combining competition and training" in technology and skills. More than 300 guests from home and abroad visited the exhibition, interacted with the exhibitors, gained a deeper understanding of Made in China, and highly appreciated the exhibition.


This conference is organized by the Chinese Council of BRICS Business Council, the Belt and Road and BRICS International Alliance for Skills Development, the Belt and Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Training Center of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), and co-sponsored by Invention Society of China (ISC), China Center for Humanities and Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of Education (MOE), and hosted by the Skills Development Working Group of the Chinese Council of the BRICS Business Council. The BRICS Business Council (China) Working Group on Skills Development, Xiamen BRICS Institute for Future Skills Development and Technological Innovation, and Beijing Jiake Xinxing Science and Technology Co. Xiamen BRICS Future Skills Development and Technology Innovation Research Institute will provide offline venue, online conference room and related conference services for the forum.

The conference held two important activities in the same period, respectively, the 38th Asian Welding Federation Council and Committee Working Meeting, and the 12th Asian Welding Technology and Application Forum of 2023 Smart Welding and Additive Manufacturing Technology and Cooperation International Symposium Skills Development and Technology Innovation Lecture Hall. The event also received high attention from Xiamen Municipal Government, with Li Ming, Deputy Director of Xiamen BRICS Innovation Base Construction Leading Group Office, Cao Weimin, Deputy Director of Xiamen Science and Technology Bureau, Fu Jing, President of Xiamen Torch University Hall, Zhang Yanyun, Section Chief of Jimei District Industry and Information Technology Bureau, and Dr. Cai Kunhai, Shuangchuang Division of Xiamen Torch Administrative Committee, present on site. Intelligent welding and additive manufacturing industry enterprises, professional colleges and universities nearly 150 representatives, including more than 40 foreign guests online and offline participation.

The BRICS Skills Development and Technological Innovation Competition, an international competition endorsed by the Preparatory Committee for the 2017 BRICS Supreme Leaders' Meeting, agreed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, and approved by the BRICS Business Council, has been successfully held for six times since its launch in 2017, with a cumulative total of more than 160,000 participants taking part in the competitions and the related conferences, exhibitions, displays, technical exchanges and other activities. Since 2017, the BRICS Competition has been presented to the top leaders of the BRICS countries as an outcome design in the Report on the Work of the BRICS Business Council for six consecutive years. The BRICS Competition has kicked off the cooperation on skills competition and technological innovation among the BRICS countries, and become an important platform for promoting educational cooperation, skills development and humanistic exchange activities among the BRICS countries, which is highly recognized by the BRICS countries and supported by the relevant units under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Affairs, and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. Among them, the competitions in the China Region of BRICS Competition are collectively called the Belt and Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technological Innovation Competition.
