On August 6, 2023, the Kick-off Meeting for the BRICS Technical and Skills Standardization Construction – Building Information Modeling (BIM) International Competition Standard was successfully held at the BRICS Academy of Skills Development and Technology Innovation (Xiamen).
Dr. Liu Zhenying, Chair of China Chapter of BRICS Business Council Skills Development, Applied Technology and Innovation Working Group, President of the International Alliance of Skills Development for Belt & Road and BRICS, and President of BRICS Academy of Skills Development and Technology Innovation (Xiamen), attended the meeting. Also present were Mr. Wu Xiaofei, General Manager of Hangzhou Xiyu Technology Co., Ltd., Mr. Liu Guangduo, Deputy General Manager, Professor Liu Zhe from Jilin Jianzhu University, and over 40 experts from more than 30 institutions across the country.
Dr. Liu Zhenying delivered a speech, introducing the progress and key points of BRICS Standardization Working Committee for Skills and Technology. He stated that in 2023, the South African Chapter of BBC SDTI Working Group initiated and received approval from the BBC SDTI Working Group meeting to authorize the China Chapter of BBC SDTI Working Group to continue leading the work of the BRICS Standardization Working Committee for Skills and Technology within the BRICS framework. A more comprehensive organizational structure was established, and seven expert working groups were formed, covering areas such as Machine Learning & Big Data, Blockchain, Additive Manufacturing, and Building Information Modeling. He expressed hope that through joint efforts, a solid foundation for standards would be laid, enhancing the organization and service of the BRICS competition and fully leveraging the role of the organizing committee.
Mr. Wu Xiaofei, General Manager, emphasized that the BIM competition standard for the BRICS Skills Competition is being led and organized by Hangzhou Xiyu Technology Co., Ltd., with support from the BRICS Standardization Working Committee for Skills and Technology and International Alliance of Skills Development for Belt & Road and BRICS. Building on the BIM competition standard and integrating institutional and industry demands with advanced international course elements, a comprehensive, practical, and international curriculum will be developed. This curriculum will closely align educational content with job market demands, promoting high-quality vocational education and employment.
Professor Liu Zhe provided a detailed explanation of the draft standard for the BIM competition under the BRICS Skills International Group Standard. Following his presentation, the expert group held breakout discussions to offer revision suggestions and solutions. Each subgroup leader then reported their findings, engaging in collective dialogue to further refine and improve the BIM competition standard.
During the meeting, Mr. Wu Xiaofei also introduced the Engineering Construction Technology and Infrastructure Subcommittee of the International Alliance of Skills Development for Belt & Road and BRICS. He elaborated on the background and purpose of the subcommittee's establishment, its scope of work, organizational structure, and operational mechanisms, and invited all experts to actively participate.
The BRICS Academy of Skills Development and Technology Innovation (Xiamen) is dedicated to promoting the coordination and unification of standards among BRICS nations, based on the outcomes recognized by the BRICS Business Council Skills Development Working Group. The Institute is actively involved in building the BRICS Future Skills Training Base (BRICS Academy or BRICS Workshop), organizing BRICS remote lecture series on skills development and technological innovation, and continuing to host the BRICS Competition of Skills Development and Technology Innovation as well as the BRICS Skills Competition.
